No version information

Hi,
Im having trouble accessing secure websites (all of a sudden). Was working
well 3 days ago. Main issue of concern is when i go to help, and about
internet explorer the version and cipher strength are blank. there is also
no product ID or update version listed.
i wanted to uninstall IE6 and reinstall it but it is not listed in the
add/remove option. I ran sfc /scannow with no effect.
i did the usual, delete temp files and cookies and history. removed the
check in the add/remove windows components, rebooted and replaced the check
and rebooted. Still same issue with secure sites and version info.

At a loss here.... what to do now? (In the mean time, i downloaded netscape
7 and am accessing secure sites that way.....eewwww!!)

Thanks for all the suggestions/advice

go to start, run:
type: regsvr32 jscript.dll
- then press enter
- that should populate the contents of the About window of Interne
Explorer and allow you to browse secure websites. The End.
