No sound.

Hi,

Has anyone any ideas on this problem?

Windows 2000 using AC97 on board sound.

Occasionally when rebooting there is no sound and no volume control from the
keyboard.

The sound can sometimes stop completely then the PC goes very slow.....

Strangely though when I play a computer game for several hours the sound is
fine.
Then I come out of the game and very soon the sound dies altogether.

Attempting to play a sound file from the controlpanel informs me that the
sound file is missing or corrupt.

A reboot then clears the problem for a while.

Thanks,

Martin

Try this. Go into the BIOS and change the Interrupt for the PCI Devices to
something else. Then reboot. I have the same issue periodically. Always
happens when my IP address and my DNS Server are not in synch. I just
assumed the Network card was overpowering the Sound card at boot. So I
changed the IRQ like I suggested above and it cleared the issue right up.
