Win2000, HP Pavilion -- NO SOUND!

G

Gidd

I upgraded my HP Pavilion 8565C from Win98 to Win 2000
Professional. Then I got the common problem of no
working sound driver. I installed the Riptide sound card
driver available from the HP website. It looked like the
installation went great, and in my Device Manager, I have
the following devices, inter alia, under Sound, Video, &
Game Controllers: Riptide Audio Device, Riptide
Bus/Firmware Downloader, Riptide Gameport, Riptide Input
Device.

All of the drivers appear to be working properly.
But, still no sound!!!! When I play an mp3 in e.g.
Windows Media Player, the track appears to play, but no
sound comes.

Can anyone help?

Thanks a ton.

Were the drivers that you installed Windows 2000 compatible? Have you
updated the machine BIOS to the latest revisisons? Any Unknown devices in
dev manager?

I ran into the same problem a while back. Went to the HP support site and
found I just needed to do a bios upgrade. You can find the info there for
your specific machine.
