No images - red X - encoding problem

I have been browsing this group for a few days trying to find an answer. I
am running IE6 on Win98 and recently started seeing red x instead of images
on lots of sites. I have read several suggestions posted in this newsgroup,
and discovered that the problem must be in the encoding. My browser
defaults to the Western European (ISO). If I manually reset the page to
Western European (Windows) the images appear.

I am inexperienced at making changes to registry codes, so I hope this is
not the answer. I appreciate any help.

do you have a popup stopper or some other software
preventing pic. ya check your security settings. have you
tryed right clicking on the red X
