No connection to the Internet is currently available

I just recently started getting this error message when opening Internet
Explorer. The dialog box contains two options, either Work Offline or Try
Again. When I click 'Try Again', the usual 'Page cannot be found' page
loads. I've checked my Internet Options > Connections settings and it is
set to Connect automatically, but it does not. I can connect with MSN
Explorer, but not with IE. The weird thing is, nothing has changed since I
last connected (a little over an hour ago, and it worked fine) and now.
What is the deal?

I use modem dial-up, and have never had this problem. Anyone else with
similar symptoms?

I think I found the fix: If you are running the Google Toolbar, uninstall
it. As soon as I did (not even rebooting) everything was fixed. I opened
IE and the dial-up dialog appeared. Weirdness.

I found the real problem with it. It has to do with the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\NavClient\1.1\Promo key in the registry.
The toolbar uses that to install some valentine scheme to skin the toolbar.
By simply renaming that key, I can still use the toolbar and connect as
usual. Of course close all IE instances before making that change.

To David Frey: Thanks man you hit the nail on the head. You were right
just rename that one key and everything went back to normal. I guess
google messed this one up. I just wish I would have found your post
before I did a format C.
