A far better solution is to upgrade to the latest version of OE,
which does not strip the trailing spaces of sig delimiters. Or to
use OEQF, if a user is unwilling to upgrade to the latest OE. Or
to stop using OE altogether. ;)

Well, I chose the last choice. As I help users that use OE I like to
know about other options as well though. Does anyone know whether
OE can be upgraded alone ? Without upgrading IE as well ?

Not as far as I know; it is "bundled" with IE.

You mean like IE is bundled with the OS? Like the OS is bundled with
your computer? Like...

It does it for me as well. Seemless joining of multipart binaries. All the

Yet your headers tell me you are posting with OE?!

How could one view a multi part graphic without assembling it first ?

This is beside the point
Dialog assembles, and displays, one part, and multi-part, graphics
without the use of any other software or programs. Inline.

Well then, use Dialog, plug it where you can. But your crusade against
Xnews is silly.
Does XNews do that ?

Or does XNews assemble multipart graphics but not display the result ?

Once again you're asking for the obvious.

What NG reading software are you using - Is there a better free
newgroup reader software that 'Free Agent'?

On line or off line, that's the question. Some people prefer an OFF
LINE reader. The much recommended XNews is an on line newsreader afaik
and therefore of little use to many.
40Tude, or whatever the heck it's called, is a kind of time limited
crippleware. So what is the best OFF LINE freeware newsreader?
Xananews? Free Agent? Mozilla's news module, or what?

No, it is not crippleware. The betas are time-limited so that buggy
versions do not remain in the wild forever.

Strange then that so many people use it as its of little use to them.

Every news client that is 'online' only can be made to work offline
regardless of OS.

The problem with time-limited software (usually betas) is, in the
past, some of them turned into shareware (the first two that come
into my mind are DownloadMage and SC Unipad) thus leaving the
impression that freeware users were only used as beta testers.

IMHO Dialog should not be recommended here until a version without
the time-limit is released, after all time-limited software is
trialware.

For online use, XNews.

For offline I use Turnpike. It's not free but it's so good I paid for it
(am I banned from the group now?).

Marcus has made it clear that there will always be a freeware Dialog.
Either trust him or don't, as with any author.

Possibly due to the fact that there are "many people" who read
newsgroups online.

Just as there are "many people" who read newsgroups offline.

In those cases the freeware users were probably only used as beta
testers. Dialog on the other hand has made it abundantly clear that
a freeware release, without time limitations, will be made.

How about simply answering the question ? As you have avoided doing
so I guess XNews does NOT assemble multipart graphics and display the
results inline. Without resorting to external programs/utilities.

That's what I had thought all along. Until another XNews fanatic, Max,
implied that I didn't have my facts correct.

Perhaps if you guys stopped your fanatical crusade to convert the
world to XNews, and simply answered people's queries, people could
decide for themselves what newsreader they wanted to use ?

It's not out of beta yet. Early on, a very buggy beta was released,
and it had to be pulled from the website. Since then I believe all the
versions have been time-limited.
I just got the latest bete and was unaware it was time limited.

Yeah, Marcus could be better about letting people know the limit before
DLing and installing. The 'about' box should tell you when your
version expires; if you want to keep using Dialog, you should upgrade
before then, obviously.

At last you're admitting that your aim is to point out a shortcoming in
Xnews, or at least something that you consider so.
And your avoiding answering straightforward questions is even sillier.

So you agree that your crusade against Xnews is silly.

And by the way, you aren't asking any straightforward questions at all.
You're just hinting and suggesting.
As is your fanatical attempt to counter any (in your imagination)
criticisms of XNews.

Stick to the facts John, you countered my post:

If you want to download binaries then Dialog will do a better job than
XNews. It downloads and assembles multi-part binaries without the
need of any other program(s) and has inline display of them.

In this post you claim that Dialog displays binaries (not just graphics,
so it must be any binary) inline. That is untrue and you know it. You
also mention Dialogs ability to assemble multi-part as the reason why
Dialog would be better at downloading than Xnews. This at least suggests
that Xnews does not have this ability. A very untrue suggestion and you
know it.
How about simply answering the question ? As you have avoided doing
so I guess XNews does NOT assemble multipart graphics and display the
results inline.

You knew that all along. You're not guessing at all.
So you are a liar, John.
That's what I had thought all along. Until another XNews fanatic, Max,

The only fanatic here is you.
And Max was right about the facts. But you knew that already.

It would appear the only error here is sloppy writing by both of you.
If you want to explain features, then do so with precision please,
otherwise you're just boring the bystanders. And also, skip the
innuendo, it's neither precise nor necessary.

Inline. Does XNews do that ?

Or does XNews assemble multipart graphics but not display
the result ?

It assembles them into a file that can then be set to open in
the system default viewer for that filetype.

Ordinary MSIE (with yProxy for yEnc, if necessary) is capable of
downloading only the FIRST part of a binary .MP3 or .JPG (or some
similar) .. then you can play or view that first part to get an idea of what
you may want to download all parts for.
