newbie question; calander archiving

Another newbie/greenhorn qusetion here:
Previous to using Outlook I created calanders with Excel, and could archive
them anyway/anywhere I choose. While I am enjoying the "all-in-one" tool set
of Outlook I have some reservations about opening/retreiving/archiving my
calanders from years past, when I get there. I require this ability to track
past business meetings, etc.

I see the folder in my documents where Outlook has created a file with .pst
extension, [and it's 43+ MB large?], and a small .dat file, which dosn't want
to be opened, by me anyway, it seems........I presume this everything
Outlook, and that somehow Outlook opens the entire file, not just part...?.
That's fine but doesn't get me where I want to go. I archive my emails
individually using my own system, and I would like that abilitly with the
calander as well.

Can someone please point me in the proper direction..........Thanks!

if you archive calendar, it goes into the same archive pst with your email.
the dat file is not your calendar - its just info outlook needs about other
things - if it was extend.dat, it about addins that are installed.

Thanks for the return post. I am still a little lost I'm afraid. I have
rooted around your website to try and answer my own question before returning
to ask for more help, nice helpful site by the way, [+ bookmared now!]

I think I kind of understand how Outlook archives my information, where, and
even how to open it, etc. [Although I haven't set anything to be archived
myself, that I am aware of, so some of this is done automatically I presume,
given the original size of the .PST file, [and now compacted thank
you!]........?] Because I save my emails individually, per client file, I
hadn't set Outlook to archive thinking this would be redundant.

What I would like to achive is saving/archiving JUST my calendar file to a
differnet location in my system. [It's just me and my computer + backup
drives. A one man show of a business.] And is possible to save it in a
different file format.........printed to PDF for instance?

on the first, export just the calendar to a pst. File, Import and Export
menu.

on the second, you can print to a PDF or other doc. If you do, I recommend
using a word template - they tend to have better layouts.

Hi all,

Have 3 front end exchange 2003 fully pached servers and 10 exchange 2003
backend servers fully patched, Using forms based authentication. We are
expierncing some early timeout issues.

Is there a KB article that says how Micrsoft calulates the start of the
timeout. I know what Mictosoft consisders inactivity as I read this KB
article (link below) but it does not mention of how it does it.

Another part of this might be browser related., does anyone know of issues
with forefox, etc....

Hi again Diane!

Thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction. I have sucessfully
exported my calendar where I wanted it. I exported it as an Excel file, which
I then altered slightly for appearence. I can easily print to PDF from there,
with satisfactory results. So, just a couple questions:

I set the dates for 1/1/07 thru 12/31/07. Will this file continue to update,
i.e. is it "live" or is it a static file from the time of export?

And it exported only the dates entered with appointments, [fields/days], I
had entered specific information into. Is this the only way it
exports..................as say oppossed to the entire calendar year, with
those specific dates included/highlighted?


I really appreciate this guidence!

it's static so you'll need to do it on a regular basis. if you are going to
use excel and update it, this might be easier:
