Archiving

First the basics. I'm running with Outlook 2002 (XP) on a XP Pro O/S
system.

Maybe I've misunderstood the purpose of archiving. But, I just got finished
archiving a good number of folders to their own, individual .pst files using
the setup in Outlook where you right-click on a current folder, and set up
the archive parameters. I did so, and then went to 'File', 'Archive' and
archived the contents of each folder that was older than 3 months. I can
see my archives under the Archive Folders tree in Outlook, but when I go to
the Outlook data folder on my C: drive, the archive folders don't show up
that I supposedly created, and the size of the outlook.pst file is just as
big as it was before I did any archiving.

So, what did I do wrong? Should I have checked the "Delete expired items
when AutoArchiving (e-mail folders only) box? It is currently unchecked. I
want to greatly reduce the size of my outlook.pst file, which has gotten
insanely huge.

The archive.pst file is growing just fine and even has today's date on it.

Any help and explanation would be much appreciated.

The archive.pst files (as well as all other .PST files and many other
Outlook files) are hidden in Windows XP. Search in hidden and system
folders and you should find them.

You need to compact your .PST file if it's not shrinking. First empty
your Deleted Items folder, then right-click the root folder of the .PST,
select Properties, click the Advanced button, then the Compact Now
button. Outlook does compact in the background if it sits open and idle
for a while, but this is quicker :)
