Outlook archiving question..

Andrew

We recently had a user who had apparently 'lost' a number
of emails after the auto archiving had run. This was just
after he had a new PC.
The emails went out of his inbox but did not go into the
archive folder.

I created a new archive folder and pointed the archiving
at this and let it run - on the assumption that the
original file had corrupted.
To my surprise all the 'lost' emails suddenly appeared in
this archive folder!!

I am curious to know what Outlook had been doing with
these emails between them 'disappearing' and the
appearing in the new archive folder.

It runs through Exchange Server 2000.

Thanks
Andrew

I doubt an answer can be given, since we don't know enough about this
particular setup, like Outlook version, the specific archive settings, the
current View the person was using, and so on.

It was with Outlook 2002 (XP)and it was simply set to
autoarchive every 14 days all items over 5 days old to an
archive file on a network drive.
Can't see how the view would make a difference?

Network-based PSTs are not supported and are subject to corruption, so says
Microsoft.

Views can hide messages, making you think they're gone when they're not.
