New XP Professional Software- license issues

Please forgive me as I am a little technically challenged. I bought the XP
Pro from my school since I had bought a new computer and wanted to install it
on there. Here is my situation:

I go to my mothers house very frequently and her laptop only has XP Home
which is fine for her, but in order for me to do my schooling projects I put
my new software on my laptop there so I have it when I am traveling back and
forth to her house.

The other issue is that I bought a new pc in April, installed the XP Pro on
it and had to send it in to be fixed. The completely wiped everything off so
I had to start fresh again. During this time of not having my new pc hooked
up I had to install the XP Pro on our old pc to do my work and now to install
it again on the new pc it says I have already installed it three
times......so.. I have it on my pc in Duluth, on my old pc and it was
installed twice on the pc that I bought in April that has been wiped out
twice and I haven't been able to use it. How do I uninstall that so I have
two more available times to install XP on the new PC and on the laptop my
husband will have when he returns from overseas. I'm not sure how this
licensing goes other than I spent $200.00 and I would like to have it on the
PCs that are running and that I am using. Please email me at
(e-mail address removed) if you have any information. I am not sure I
even explained myself correctly :- ( Thank you!

You need to purchase a new Windows XP license for each
installation on a different computer. You cannot use the
same license (Product Key) if you install on different PCs.

Please read your End-User License Agreement by going
to Start > Run and type: WINVER , and hit enter. Then
click on "End-User License Agreement".

Software is not an issue of the operating system usually - the version
of XP should not affect the programs you can install.

OK, so as I understand it you have one copy of XP pro? This means you
can install it on one machine. If you want it on a workstation and a
laptop you need to by a second XP pro licence. If You're saying that the
issue is that you can't activate the new copy due to the number of times
it's been activated already - you'll need to ring MS activation and
explain it to them.

NEVER put your real email address on newsgroup postings - it's the best
way on Earth to get spam. You can now sit back and enjoy numerous offers
to help get money out of Nigeria, buy online pharaceuticals, etc etc etc

Oh great! I told you I am technically challenged! haha

Yes, I bought one copy of XP PRO from school. In one of those pamphlets
that came with the software, it says I can install it on up to three PCs in
my home. So I have it on the laptop I bring to my moms, my old pc and I did
have it installed two times on the new pc but it got sent back to HP to be
completely erased. So I would like to take it off this old pc and put it on
the new one that just came back from the second time from HP. So then in
theory I would have it installed on two home PCs. If I just spent $200 on
software I cannot use I am going to be very ******* off! Then I will see why
my ex quit working at Microsoft :- )

OK, so you have 'official documentation' which says you can put it on
multiple machines? IANOL (I am not a lawyer) but that might be a defence
mightn't it? Can you tell us more about the pamphlet, who produced it etc!

If you encounter a problem with activation via the internet,
then simply choose the alternative option to "activate by phone".

MS has deals with lots of education institutions. Some deals are as described by this person. Everyone who attends the institution can install Windows at home for free (well the institution pays). MS have pulled their press releases (they are criminal where data storage is concerned) about it (at least for Morton TAFE).

PS you need to learn how to spell anonymous.

I can guarantee you didn't read that you could install Windows XP Pro on 3
machines in any pamphlet from Microsoft. You may have Office for Students and
Teachers 2003, which you can install on up to 3 machines and it would say
that in the pamphlet for that. However, as everyone has already said, you
have one license, therefore that entitles you to install on one computer.

You don't know what deal MS made with the school for its academic
license of XP. Unless you are going to her school and have bought the
same package, you really are just guessing.

Thanks, I hadn't noticed it was wrong

(though actually as PS is stands for something don't you really need to

another long involved grammar debate :)
