new design does not appear in right hand pane...

...after I saved it as a new dotpot and closed down pp. On reopening PP, I
was expecting it to appear in the task pane as 'recently used'. This design
is my company's logo'd template and would be used all the time. Is there a
way of getting it to appear here?

The design has to be saved to the right folder, so that PowerPoint can find
it. Word manages the template folder for the whole office. So have a look at
Word's Tools - Options - Location of files (don't know whether this is the
correct name of the tab, I use a German version of PowerPoint). There you
should find two folders for workgroup templates and user templates. Save
your design to one of them and make sure it has the file extension POT.
