Task Pane

I cannot seem to get the Task Pane to appear on screen by default in
Powerpoint 2002.

Every time I open a new session of Powerpoint I need to:
=> Right click on slide in Normal View
=> Select Slide Design or Slide Layout

Also, why does the Task Pane option only appear in the toolbar list (both
right click and customize) after I have opened it as above?

Thanks

Have you tried clicking "Tools", "Options", "View" TAB, checking the
"Startup Taskpane" at the top, closing out PowerPoint, then re-opening it?

Right click anywhere on the toolbar, and make sure that Task Pane is
checkmarked.

This is checked but does not appear when I open any particular presentation.

If, however, I open Powerpoint from the Start Menu then the Task Pane is
displayed.
