Networking XP
Still can't get this to go. Could use a little more help.

Xp pro to xp pro. Dlink 604 router. Computer1 (c1) sees and uses Computer2
(c2), shared folders no problems.

But on C2 I click on c1 in "view network computers" a popup box opens and
asks for a "user name and password" for C1. Don't have any other accounts
(no guest).

I have set c1 and c2 up identically. In explorer> tools> Folder options>
view> auto search for networks (1st one) is checked, and the bottom one is
unchecked (use simple file sharing).

In local area connection> 4 items = client for MS Networks, file and print
sharing, QoS packet sharing, and Internet protocall (TCP/IP).

no xp firewall (unchecked).

Somehow C1 has to give C2 permission to access shared files. How?
Thanks

Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click Folder Options.
On the View tab, under Advanced settings see if the "use simple file
sharing" option is selected. It probably is selected on C1 but not
selected on C2.

Good luck
