(snip)
If you want to stop and set something else up, we can. Or we can
continue
and see if we can get the 1x 98se system(wabash2)
running/networking....
(playing with the other children)
It's you call.
Let's work on Wabash1, Wabash2, and Wabash3 right now. But once we
get
done, we
can harden your browser / workgroup infrastructure.
So start please with "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from Wb1,
Wb2,
and
Wb3. Start with lots of diagnostics, it'll be a lot easier that
way.
And who owns Server? That was identified as the master browser
earlier,
so we
better define that too. That will determine how we proceed with
making
your
workgroup.
As I stated earlier, I'm at home but will transfer these msg to work
and
"get on it" in the AM.
I didn't think I could run browstat on the 98se systems?
How about ipconfig /all?
He has the "server". It's a old winxp system.
I have an older 950mhz system (98se), use as a standby incase one of
my
"better" systems goes down. As you can tell, I still run 98se on most
of
my
machines. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". The one xp(wb1) is new
and
I
thought I'd better start upgrading.
Will start by coping down tcp/ip settings on xp and 98se system. They
do
show up different on the two systems.
Will run, if possible, browstat and ipconfig on all systems.
Yeah the light in my head is finally burning now. You can't run
browstat
on Wb2
or Wb3. DOHH.
And unless I work on some more scripting, doing diagnostics on WB2 and
3
won't
be real easy either. But please don't spend time copying down stuff -
redirect
it. "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt". Read the articles please.
<
http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-network-neighborhood.html#AskingForHelp>
And if your neighbour owns the server, then you might as well stay as
you
are -
that's your master browser.
Good morning. Her we go.
Ipconfig on the xp(sp2) system.

Not sure why ipconfig format is different between 2, 3?
L.
OK, let's give this a shot. Please read instructions carefully. Note
the
2
sections of code - one for XP, the second for 9x. Note the different
file
names
- "cdiag.cmd" (XP) and "cdiag.bat" (9x).
Take the CDiag XP code (everything inside the "#####"). (Please verify
computer
names and ip addresses).
1. Open Notepad. Ensure that Format - Word Wrap is not checked.
Highlight
then Copy the code (Ctrl-C), precisely as it is presented, and Paste
(Ctrl-V)
into Notepad. Verify, and correct, names and addresses if necessary.
2. Save the Notepad file as "cdiag.cmd", as type "All Files", into the
root
folder "C:\".
3. Run it by Start - Run - "c:\cdiag".
4. Wait patiently.
5. When Notepad opens up displaying c:\cdiag.txt, first check Format
and
ensure that Word Wrap is NOT checked! Then, copy the entire contents
(Ctrl-A
Ctrl-C) and paste (Ctrl-V) into your next post.
Run this on Wabash1, please, with all computers powered up and online.
