.NEt Framework problem

I have been unable to update, or uninstall, .NET Framework 1.0 for
over a year. Every time I close down the computer it tries
unsuccessfully to install the 1.1 update before finally powering down.
I have been unable to uninstall the update. For some time I have been
getting a warning from PC-Cillin of a Windows vulnerability. I
downloaded a patch from Microsoft that was supposed to fix the
vulnerability but when I try to install it I get the message "The
patch package could not be opened". I checked the file with properties
and the digital signature is present, so I assume it is a ligit MS
program.

Is there anything I can do to get the vulerability fixed?

Thanks
Mike

Need to know what OS you're running before anybody can even offer
advice.

I have a similar problem that winxp sp2 refused to open the package
when installing office.
After i download and run window installer 3.1, everything runs fine.

Besides running the Windows Installer 3.1 package as already mentioned you
might want to clean up any of the failed previous dotnet installs with
http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip

AND, read the notes at that site too; it recommends running the above and
THEN also using MS's Installer Cleanup Utility to remove any left behind
files. THEN reinstall the latest dot NET redistributable (what ever
version(s) you need).

FWIW, the dot NET installers all seem to be a tad buggy, many people have
difficulties w/ them. Best advice is often to do a complete ununstall
as described in the above and then try again. And after it's up and
working for you, revist windows update to get any hot-fixes for it.

good luck
