Need for IIS

MJ

Am currently using FP2002 with IIS 5.1 installed along
with WindowsXP Pro and OfficeXP Small Business. The
FP2002 install is a full version, not an upgrade and was
installed independent of OfficeXP Sm. Bus. I have 2
websites that I develop and manage from my computer but
do not use my personal computer as a server. I publish
both to an independent hosting company server.

My concern is security as I have multiple users on my
computer. Though I do use a McAfee firewall(auto
updated), I'm still concerned about exposure. I know I
need the FP Server Extension admin to test my webs
locally - can it be used as a stand-alone or does it need
IIS? If not, how can I remove IIS?

You all have been extremely helpful in the past, thanks
in advance for your help.

In order to use the FP 2002 extension locally, you must be running IIS. If
using a router, which I recommend for connecting to the internet via
cable/DSL, you would then block all inbound request for port 80.

Thanks Thomas - I was afraid of that. Right now the
firewall seems to be doing what it is supposed to. I've
got it set to create a log of all tries and track/report
them regularly to McAfee. Unfortunately, still using dial-
up, my need for speed isn't that great. Within the next 6
months I'll be adding a laptop to the mix and was
thinking WI-fi instead of router or combination of both-
I'll post in another group for that.
Thanks again,
MJ
