Mystery URLs

There are several URL addresses that appear in the address
bar that I would like to know how to delete. They will
appear if I type a single letter in the address bar and
several choices are offered for selection. Most choices I
can identify as being in the Favorites folder or recent
URLs. These are URLs have not been used for a long time
but keep showing up. I've tried clearing internet cache,
history, temp folder, etc. but the addresses still
appear. They do not appear in my "Favorites" folder.
Where could they be stored and how can I get rid of them?

The only method I know of is to use the delete key as you
advance down through the list of dropdown addresses.
I hope somebody else knows of an easier way.

Bill,
These are coming from the index.dat file in the History folder.
Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm will delete the
History folder (and the index.dat file) and a new one will be created when
you restart.
Or the History folder can be deleted manually:
