'my computer' doesn't display drives, only searching torch

[Baffled]

When I open 'my computer' it wont display the drives,
only shows a searching torch (flashlight).

This problem doesn't exist in safe mode.

What can I do to fix this problem, as my virus checker
also won't word in normal mode, only in safe mode.

Hi,

First, worry about the virus checker. As it won't run in normal mode, that
is a good indication that some bug is loading and disabling it. Download
stinger from http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ and then restart in Safe mode.
Run stinger from there, so that any resident infections do not interfere,
and they can be removed.

When finished, restart in normal mode and see if you can fire up your normal
AV software. If so, then update it immediately and run a full system scan.
Once cleaned up, see if the problem is still occuring in "My Computer".
