"My Computer" causes computer to hang.

Hi Everybody--ok, here's a weird one, and I'm not finding
anything in newsgroups. The past two weeks or so,
whenever I click on my "My Computer" icon, the window
pops open, and the flashlight searches, but finds
nothing. That is, none of the drives show up or anything.
When I try to explore to "My Computer", the same thing
happens. Then when I try to close the window, my computer
hangs as Windows struggles to close the window, and I
usually get the "End Now" popup. This may or may not have
started after I installed the Trend Micro Antivirus
software, but disabling the software doesn't help. Help!
What's wrong with "My Computer"?

Hello, I have the exact same problem which seems to have
developed after deleting some registeries but I'm not
sure. Have you encountered any solutions? There's some
advice on the Microsoft technical support about "Closing
WIA" bit I was unable to activate.

I've had no luck. I ran sfc.exe, but that didn't help.
The weird thing is, the problem comes and goes, but
really seems to show up when I've left my computer on for
a few days. The other odd thing is that I've found
winword.exe and excel.exe running in processes even after
I've closed them.

Very interesting. I've also noticed that the condition
comes and goes. I'll think I have it fixed, I can click on
My Computer and the drives and folder instantly appear.
Then, click and 5-10 minutes of flashlight search. I've
also lost the automatic WWW on website searches.

When it hangs next, check processes in task Manager and
see what is hogging the CPU.

(I'd bet it will be explorer.exe - lots of questions in
the forum about this one, but no fixes yet....)
