"MY Computer" open or explore freezes

Ellie

When I try to open "My Computer" or even 'explore' it hangs
and never opens. I am then forced to force close the window
that is sitting there.

I have run a check for spyware and a full anti-virus check.
I am on SP1, on XP pro on a network.

I had noticed that when I open a box to 'save' or 'open
file' it was taking a while to open, and now this has
developed.

Has anyone any idea of what is happening?

Many thanks,

Ellie

Run error checking Need help? Open help and support and
search for "error checking" Beyond that I would check
what running via windows task manager. Is there an
application that hogging your pc. If so, investigate

Thanks for the reply.

I see that in order to check for errors, I have to open My
Computer.... which I am unable to do. There is no
application that has changed or is new, but I will test by
cutting down all progs on opening. My memory is 1.5 G
(don't remember the type, but very expensive and fast as I
work with large graphics files), so should not be a
problem, and has not been in the past.

I have a partitioned disk, if that changes things.

I think this is related to a problem with my external
firewire CD burner having a problem with a connection. I
just discovered that this is not working. Should be able to
sort it.

Thanks

Ellie
