I've been having trouble with some sites that have javascript but tonight I
tried to log into a website and a message came up from them saying:

unfortunately your browser cannot read javascript, which is needed to view
this site

please update your browser to the latest version

I have IE 6 and I get automatic updates etc., so I dont know what to do.
Hope someone can help.

Assuming your accessing the page in Internet zone (Tools > Internet Options
Security) with the default settings, (Courtesey of MVP Mike Burgess)
several of these are known to cause the problem:

1) Zone Alarm Pro [Private Header Info - enabled?]: Reset "Ad Blocking" and
"Cookie Control" to "medium" "Mobile Code Control" = Off

2) Symantec (ISS\NIS) [Enable Browser Privacy - enabled] Active Content -
"Allow All Scripts To Execute". Problem: some sites cannot detect the 128
bit
encryption Solution: Completely remove and reinstall NIS.

3) Any "ad blocking" software that blocks "http_referer" or contains entries
that are blocking access to the desired site.

4) HOSTS file that contains entries that are blocking access to the desired
site.

5) Cookie blocking software blocking "required" Cookies.

6) Pop-up blockers stripping header\url info.

7) WebWasher Standard Filter/URL Filter

8) Make sure the following Registry entry is not corrupt:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings] "User Agent"="Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0;)"

Other things that might help:

1. You might want to refresh your scripting engine:

Sometimes there's a corrupt file in the cache and one must go to Tools |
Internet Options and click Delete Files.

2a. Start>Run>Regsvr32 vbscript.dll

2b. Start>Run>Regsvr32 jscript.dll

5a. IE Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Browsing>Enable third-party browser

check for hijackware anyway):

I solved the problem with mine. My ex actually solved it by going in
remotely to my pc and figured it out. I had for some reason clicked 'Block
ads on this site' and it was reading the sites I wanted with Javascript as
ads.

So that was all it was!
