multiple notes masters

for my presentations I have two notes masters (for two printouts,
different purposes)

PP only allows for one so I end up saving two versions of a prsentation.
Is there any way to save a notes master (only) as a template or import
the template from another presentation?

No, but if the only difference between two templates were the notes formatting,
then applying one or the other shouldn't affect the slides.

correct, the solution is to import the presentation into empty
presentations, each with its own notes master design.

(what I wanted to do is make one, print the notes in the first format,
import/apply the notes master in the second format, and print that one)
