MP3 player/ USB problems

I just got an MP3 player and when I plug it in I get a "USB device not
recognized" pop up message. I've tried installing a driver off the CD but the
computer tells me that there are no drivers better than whats already on the
computer. Has anyone ever dealt with a problem like this?

Try a different cable

I don't think it's the cable. I have the exact same problem. I have an RCA
Lyra mp3 player. It used to work fine, but now I get the exact same error
message as "porcupine" gets - both initially connecting and when using the
troublehsooter. I also tried to uninstall then re-install the drivers from
the CD. A friend of mine has the same problem with his mp3 player. I just
bought my wife a Creative MuVo mp3 player. It plugs directly into the
computer's USB port without a cable (the USB connector is a part of the
device). My computer doesn't even acknowledge it with an error message. I'm
running Windows XP SP2. Then I plugged my wife's Creative mp3 player into the
laptop I use at work (Windows XP SP1) and it recognizes it straight away.

Any ideas?

I am having a similar problem. I am running XP Home with SP2; with the
iRiver H10. I can get Media Player to recognize the device when I first
install the H10 driver but then it can't find it on subsequent connections.
I can't change my cable because the H10 uses a device specific USB cable. I
have a problem opened with the iRiver support team but still have not
received a response.

Sounds like it must be a common problem; I have the same with Scott MX 92
FTR. I can not connect to any of four Win XP + SP2 systems yet they read
flash memory sticks and other (cheap!) MP3 players. www.audioscott.com offer
no assistance or even acknowledgement of e-mails. I have just bought mine
but can only load through a memory card - almost USELESS!

I found my fix to this problem on www.mysticriver.net.
Go to CONTROL Panel / ADD HARDWARE and select the H10 device. After
"adding" the H10 as a hardware device, I have not had any further problems
with it being recognized. I did pass this solution on to iRiver support and
closed my trouble ticket with them. You'd think that they try to figure out
why so many of the systems out there are having problems recognizing the USB
device automatically. I'm sure something is wrong with the driver when it's
insllated in various environments (has anyone looked at the chipsets having
the problems)? I guess with these new MPR devices, the divers are installed
with the chipsets... anyway, try add hardware which then causes the H10 to
be recognized. Good Luck.

I was having similar problems with a Rio Forge 256. It used to work fine and
then one day Windows XP no longer recognized it when I plugged it into a USB
port. I plugged it into a port in the back of my PC and it now works fine.

I bought a Aigo A208 1Gb flash MP3 player, and have problems with it on my
home PC, Win XP SP2, in that it doesn't recognise the player at all. The
player's display sits there with 'reading' on the display. I have contacted
Aigo, sent the palyer back to them and they promised to send an A203 in
return. So I packed it all up including the accessories and eventually got
in return... a new A208 with no accessories. The point is that I have tried
the played in my PC at work, Win 2009 netowrked and the player is shown in
Window Explorer as a drive. I've alos plugeed it into a Laptop with Win XP
Pro installed with the same thing, the player was recognised in Windows
explorer. My own theory is that Win XP Home doen't come with all the drivers
that Win XP Pro has. I also have a 256MB Flash drive for moving files about
and Win XP Home recognised that when first installed. Oh yes, almost forgot,
the player came with drivers for Win 98, but not XP.
