Can NOT get my computer to recognize my MP3 player!

I have tried and tried to sync my computer to my MP3 player so I can let the
kids download their music. We are using Windows Media Player to sync, but my
computer does not recognize any device (MP3 player) hooked up to the computer.

I had to install a USB 2.0 port for my daughters Phillips player ... but it
will not recognize it. My son just got a RCA player (I think it was RCA) ...
and it will not recognize it either. This is getting very frustrating to say
the least ... not to mention we have $400. worth of players that we can't use!

Help .......

From my experience with Phillips players, the USB problem arises because
their software is so badly written that it only works when the account is a
full Administrator. See if that works first.

In addition to Mike's response, check the USB port with some other
USB device to make sure the port is active.

If that fails, it may be time to clear out the USB history from the
registry:

delete the registry keys under

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB

which start with Vid_

If you don't feel confident with that, backup the registry, or that part
of the registry OR simply rename those keys as xVid_ or similar.

I had the same problem until I connected it thru a self-powered USB hub.
Now it works perfectly. I guess I had too many things connected thru usb
because thru trial and error I discovered that if I disconnected my usb
printer the mp3 player worked. I already had the hub (I had used it with an
old computer), but you can get one for under 25.00.
