monitor color problem

I posted this a couple days ago and got no response so I'll try again
with more information. I've got an Acer 4502 laptop with XP pro
installed. After a defrag the monitor started to display a pinkish tint
to the gray areas of the screen. There appears to be a "bleeding" of
color as I move the cursor on the screen. This is a horizontal bleed of
color. With pictures the contrast is off. I have changed nothing to
cause this. I've downloaded and installed new video driver. I've tried
different restore points. I've changed gamma settings. It does this at
different resolution settings. I find it difficult to do any image
editing now because of the screen. Any help of ideas would be welcome.
Thanks,
Bob W.

Does the same thing happen in Safe Mode?

Yes, the same thing happens in safe mode. FYI, the "bleeding" seems to
be to the right side of icons, cursor, etc. on a dark background. Sorry
I took so long to respond to this.

Do you have a VGA socket at the back to connect up an external screen?
Many laptops have one. If you can borrow, or beg an external monitor,
connect it up and see if the same problem arises.

If it doesn't, then it's a hardware problem (VGA chip or Screen) and
will need to be returned to the manufacturer for repair.

If it DOES, then it is likely a software glitch.

Let me know how you get on. Good Luck.

I've hooked up an old monitor and the problem doesn't occur on that
monitor. Apparently it's a hardware problem. :( Appreciate your help
diagnosing this. Thanks

No problem. Remember to ask for a quote first (unless it's still under
warranty) as a replacement screen can be very expensive. Anyway, good
luck.

Thanks,
I've had it just a few day past a year. However, I did purchase an
extended warranty when I bought it. I've had problems with laptops
before and decided to purchase extra warranty with this one. Glad I did.
