Modem hand shakes then drops the connection

Hi

Modem used to be working until three days ago when I wanted to log in to the internet. The modem dials up fine, then negotiates with the ISP server taking too long doing it with that noisy sound and also with the normal message "Verifying username and password" then it drops the connection, saying it couldnt connect me

I called my ISP and they said every thing was fine and they even checked my account several times on thier server and they asked me to dial up so they could see if there was any thing coming from my side but they said there wasn't anything my modem was sending at all

I checked my modem and it was fine

I have windows xp and the modem is TOSHIBA Software Modem AMR

question: why cant i log in to my account anymore? and why my modem is doing this

Yes I am sure my username and my password are correct.
