Gigabyte 81955x Pro - can't use 56k int PCI modem

I can't get either of my 56k PCI modems to fully connect to my ISP on the
81955x Pro m/board. They're fine elsewhere.

When I dial it's ok, then it takes forever to handshake and emits a squeal
for about 30 seconds, then after it's verified username and password (which
also takes far longer than normal) it quits before authentication and says
it can't communicate with the server.

First thing I did was change PCI slots, but no change. The error details
aren't any help and troubleshooting wizard is useless because essentially
the modem works, but not satisfactorily.

If anyone has the same problem or can offer a solution I'd love to hear from
you. Gigabyte haven't been much help.

Drivers are updated and the manufacturers generic 8.3 version. This is the
third lot I've tried.

In addition I've used the manufacturers utility to completely remove drivers
and reinstall.

I've refreshed tcp/ip using the netsh utility.

The two pci slots in question work faultlessly with my firewire card.
there's nothing wrong with them in that regard...... however there must be
an issue of some sort and I'm still trying support via Gigabyte.

This isue does not seem to be Gigabyte's or your ISP's fault. You need to
check with the modem manufacturer to see where the problem could be?
