modem driver

As stated in the original message, I did try to roll back
the driver, but it did not help. The system seems to keep
finding the newer driver everytime I reinstall the modem,
even though I am installing from the software supplied
with the modem.

I'm not sure how to do a system restore.

Any additional help is greatly appreciated.

Can you either roll back the driver or do a system restore? Either
would restore the original driver.

I recently installed a new driver for my dial up modem
from the Windows Update site (I also have a cable
modem). Ever since the new driver was installed, I
cannot use the dial up modem to send any faxes. My fax
program (WinFax) keeps asking me to set up the modem, but
when I do, the system reboots. I tried to roll back the
driver, no help. It was working fine until I downloaded
the new driver. I have uninstalled & reinstalled the
modem at least a dozen times & now always have the same
problem. I've tried using a different fax program
(Bitware), but it does the same thing. Everytime I run
autodetect, it gets to Com 3 (where the modem is
installed), it reboots the system.
O/S is Windows XP & the modem is compatible.
Is there any way to either manually delete the drivers or
change the Com Port that is used?
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you.

JoAnn, try this:
go to Control panel/Phone&Modem Options/Modems
Tab/Highlight your modem and click Remove.

Now Reboot into SAFEMODE (hit F8 before Windows Logon)and
install your Modem Driver from there.
Good Luck
