missing files

Last night my HP Pavilion 512c 1.7 GHz Celeron turned
itself off after an apparent power failure. When I
turned it back on, the monitor wouldn't work. I changed
monitors and when I turned it on, a message said it
couldn't find c:\windows\system32\.exe. I X'ed out of
that and another window said it couldn't find
c:\windows\system32\nvid32.exe. I X'd out of that and
then MSN Today popped up. It never had before. I X'd
out of that and went to Restore. All of my Restore
points have been erased. When I bought this thing, a
Windows disk did not accompany it. Except for running a
little slower I can still use it but I feel that I will
find some files missing or screwed up. I plugged the
original monitor in this morning and it will work. I
would appreciate any advise, instruction or consolation
as the case may be. Thank You.

nvid32.exe - that is part of nvidia vido card. You need to reinstall the video card. if you know what video card you have you can go here and grab the drivers: www.nvidia.com and I think you can grab the 4in1 drivers also. may work for all nvidia cards. hope this helps.
