Missing display adapter

I had to do a repair install on Win XP, and now there is
no display adapter listed in the device manager. It was
fine before I did the repair. I have reinstalled the
drivers for my video card, (which I downloaded this
morning and are current and correct) and set my
resolution, but I can't figure out how to get the display
adapter icon back. There is no information in the
(adapter type) box, and adapter information for each
entry says "unavailable." The monitor tab lists "default
monitor" and under monitor settings, the screen refresh
rate says "use hardware default setting" and there are no
other choices. The (adapter type properties) general tab
says VgaSave, non plug and play drivers, and the driver
tab just saves VgaSave. I can't use a lot of my software
because it says there is no 3D accelerated graphics
adapter present. When I install the display drivers, they
don't show up in the Add/Remove programs list. I have
tried changing to BaseVieso, rebooting, making sure the
system is clean, then installing the drivers and removing
the BaseVideo setting, rebooting again, but nothing
changes. Could you tell me how to get the display adapter
back? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Angie,
It is possible the repair install of Windows XP removed/uninstalled or
some how disabled your AGP filter driver. To check if your AGP filter is
installed go to Device Manager and expand System Devices. Look for a device
similar to '*** to AGP Controller'. If there is none please download the
latest AGP filter driver for your motherboard and install it. If you are
unsure as to what to download please reply with your system or motherboard
make/model and I will give you a link to download the driver from. Good
luck, please keep me informed of your results.

Lance:

There is a listing in System Devices that reads:
VGA CPU to AGP2.0/AGP3.0 Controller.
When I click on the properties for it, it says that there
are no drivers installed for this device. Please let me
know where to find the current driver so I can install
it. Will I have to reinstall the nVidia drivers again
afterward? Thank you SO MUCH for your help. I can
usually figure out what went wrong since I build and
repair computers, but the software end is NOT my thing!

Please try these drivers:
http://downloads.viaarena.com/drivers/4in1/VIA_Hyperion 4IN1_V451v.zip

Assuming this is the problem your Nvidia card should be detected after
reboot. You might have to reinstall the Nvidia driver, or it might be
detected on reboot.
