Migrating from W2K Desktops to W2K Laptops

We are considering migrating at least 700 of our desktops to laptops with
port replicators running W2K. Is anyone aware of any
resources/documentation on how this has or can be done in other
deployements? Microsoft's site seems to have relatively little.

Thanks,
Carlos

What a horrible thought!
with

What's a "port replicator"?

My only experience of this is noting that the laptops present far more
deployment and management issues than the desktops. With the desktops we
have pretty much identical hardware; we use ONE build of Win2k, but the
$OEM$ folder has a few "extras" to make sure all the different types of
NIC and graphics adapters will install correctly.

When we do laptops, this goes out the window, and we have to get all the
quirky drivers from each manufacturer and manually extract all the INF
files and DLLs. There's then the nightmare of trying to manage them.
With the desktops, they're always "on" and they're logged out at night,
so we can run scripts to update them all and reconfigure them all, but
with laptops, they're either off, in someone's drawer or off-site...
