RJILI Mohamed

We use to create a forest between the sites of our group
using Active Directory. i have to install more than 20
sites.
last week i have to migrate one site named sites1 to W2k
it will be a domain child of mydomaine.com so the DNS name
of this Domaine is sites1.mydomaine.com but an error
message that indicates:
error 1073741823(c000001) have been happen (internal ID
3000b2a).
DCPROMO begin the migration but at the end of this process
it indicates that it detected a duplicated SID i have
never done a clonage of a DC
thanks for you help

Rjili,

Please try this: install the Support Tools on all of your
WIN2000 Servers ( DCs, File Server, Exchange Server , et
al. ). The Support Tools are located in two places: on
the WIN2000 Server CD in the Support | Tools folder and
on the WIN2000 Service Pack CD in the Support | Tools
folder. I would take the Service Pack CD if possible.

From a command prompt run both NETDIAG /FIX and
DCDIAG /FIX and then NETDIAG /V and DCDIAG /V. If you
want, you can stipulate that they output be redirected to
a text file for the /V switches. This might give us a
better idea. Now, I know that this does not have
anything to do with Duplicated SIDs but I just had a
similar problem ( not the exact problem, though ) and
this helped.

There is a utility out there that will help you with a
whole slew of problems, Duplicated SIDs being one of
them. Take a look at NTDSUtil. This comes with
WIN2000. Take a look at the following MSKB Articles:

If you are getting an error message saying that it detected a duplicate sid,
let's first just check to be sure there are no duplicate domain sids. You
can use the getsid.exe program for this, which can be downloaded from
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/tools/existing/getsid-o.asp

You can get the domain sid by using the following command:

getsid \\dcname domainname \\dcname domainname

Compare the SID for the domain you are promoting to be a child domain with
the SIDs for the parent domain and any other domains in the forest.

Also, can you provide the dcpromo.log file from the server that failed to
promoted?

Thank you, Jimmy! I guess that would be a better first
step. Forgot about that utility.
