messenger service pop-ups

Since getting my new xp computer I have been getting pop-
up ads that advertise ways of getting rid of their own
annoying ads. The ads are allways the same and suggest
that in the future advertisers will discover the
messenger service and flood me with pop ups, however the
only ones I get suggest that I go to a web site to
purchase something to block the ads that are comeing from
that very website. Can this be stopped without profiting
the very people who are creating the annoyance?

lapinel,
The very *first thing you should do is use a firewall!!
If nothing else you can use the included firewall in XP.
