Major Problem: WinXP Pro Hangs up with Internet Explorer

I still have a Major Problem: WinXP Pro Hangs up with Internet Explorer 6.0
(SP-1)

Under recently installed Win XP Pro I've encountered a strange and very
irritating problem:

When I log onto the internet, with Internet Explorer 6.0 (SP-1), everything
works well for about 4 or 5 minutes. Then, my web browser stops functioning
and I get the dreaded "cannot connect to this... page" message. After that,
I'm unable to connect to any URL.

I use a fiber-optic cable modem + LAN card for net access. I've used this
for 4 years under Windows 98 with no problems. Interestingly, after the web
browser stops working, I still have internet access through my cable modem.
I can ping my ISP, or some other URL, without any difficulty.

All other programs on the computer work fine and don't hang up. Once I
reboot my system I'm good for another 3 to 5 minutes before my browser hangs
up again. This problem is reproducible; it happens every time.

-- I checked the windows update site: All critical updates were already
installed.
-- I ran my current Norton Virus Check and the Virus Check at Trend Micro:
No Viruses were found.
-- I ran Spybot and removed quite a few "Spies". When I re-ran the Spybat
program everything was clean.
-- My firewall is turned off.
-- I've defragmented and scanned the file system multiple times.
-- I reinstalled Internet Explorer 6.0 from the Installation CD-ROM. I
followed the instructions in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 318378 (How
to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP)
(and also described by Doug Knox) but it didn't help at all.

Nothing has helped! I can only use Internet Explorer 6.0 for 5 minutes, at
most.

I'm not sure what the problem is. What's the experience in running the
Windows XP Pro upgrade program again? I really hate to do this; but, unless
I get some good advice I may have to. All suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,
Wolfram

I've exactly the same problem. May I add some informations: the connection is still working (ADSL): Outlook Expresss and P2P application such as Shareaza, but Internet Explorer hangs up. I try to remove and re install IE it's the same, I tried to use Netscape (sorry about that !!) and it's the same bug.

Well, I still have the problem.

I installed Mozilla and the same problem occurs. I can get 5 minutes of
perfect web browsing and then a total hang up.

Command line function like 'ping' indicate that my connection to the
internet is still intact.

Since Mozilla also has the problem I think the problem's not with the web
browser. Look's like a major, but uncommon, WinXP Pro bug.

Interestingly, I have another system with XP Pro that works OK.

I would still like appreciate suggestions. Windows tech support has been of
no help.

Thanks,
