Low signal with wireless network card

Hi. iv set up a wireless network for my internet connection i am running broadband. the router is downstairs but it cant be moved from where its. I am upstairs in my room and there is hardly any signal in here theres jus enuff to b able to surf when sat in certain spots in my room i am jus wanting to know if theres a way of boosting the signal or do you know of any antenas i can get my for catd its for my laptop

the card i use is an removable pcmcia card
