lost my cd and dvd drives

I was trying to install Ipod software and ran into a problem. Apple told me
to reconfig my computer using MSCONFIG.
After following the steps outlined I lost me CD RW drive and my CD/DVD R
drive
The drives in questions are titled
CDRomSamsung_DVD-ROM_SD-616T
and
CDROMHL-DT-ST_CD-RW_GCE-8481B

Please can someone tell me how to restore these drives.
I tried using system restore which had been enabled, but somehow isn't and
there are no restore points

Thanks
Stu

Rick, I'm not sure this addresses my problem. I can't see the RW drive or
the DVD drive from c: or in device manager or Widows Explorer

What do you mean by 'lost my cd and dvd drives'?

That the drives don't show up in 'Windows Explorer'?
That the drives don't show up in 'Device Manager'?
That the drives don't show up in the BIOS information screens?

How do you know the 'names' of the drives if you have lost them? Did you
write that down before making the changes, or do the drives show up in
'Device Manager' or are you using 'regedit'?
And have you tried 'Add Hardware' in the 'Control Panel', and if so, what
were the results?

Specific advice depends on the answers to the above question; otherwise you
might as well try the 'Psychic Hotline'.

And, by the way, you should include all information in the body of the post,
and not have the question and other information just in the 'Subject:' line
as you did.
