Lost CD/DVD (error 39)

I loaded my ipod software to my new vista computer and all the removable
drives. By using system restore, I lost the ipod software but found the
removable drive icons again. But vista still does not recognize the cd/dvd
drive--if I put a cd in, nothing happens.

I forgot to add that I tried going to

which I saw suggested on another thread, but my regedit looked nothing like
what the instructions said it should look like, so I was afraid to do
anything.
