Long time to shut down w/ many "hangs"

Every time I want to shut down my computer it takes about 10 minutes.
Consistent several programs will "hang" and refuse to shut down unless I
specifically click on a button "shut down". The worst one is a program
called "jusched.exe." Without esception, this program will fail to shut down
properly, but often there are many others. So I have to manually shut down
all of these programs in order to shut down or reboot my computer. It is a
real wast of time. Any suggestions?

Since this happens *every* time, you'd still know what system changes
(installation) you've made prior to the first encounter. Why don't you
just undo these changes.

Not a normal situation at all. There are a number of causes for this.
Usually, the first step would be to check the System and Application
Event logs for errors and warnings. Some combinations of programs
will interact and cause improper shutdowns. Microsoft has created a
add-on service for XP called "User Hive Profile Cleanup". It will help
to close the User Registry at shutdown and may help. From your
description, it sounds like the Java Updater has issues. I would check
the Startups & Watchdogs to see how much background loading is
on the PC.

To access Event Viewer:
Click Start, Run (Type) EventVwr.Msc [Enter]

User Profile Hive Cleanup download:

Probably the machine just needs some routine maintenance and a
little "Tuning" to get things running correctly.
