I've bought several pieces of software recently which I am unable to install; I get this message: Error 1311 Source file not found D:software/****\data1.cab (****=name of software like "Pstitch" for my Cannon camera). Any assistance is appreciated.

You need to try and pin point exactly what is happening here. Check the Event Viewer for possible information. Go to start/Run and type eventvwr.msc and press OK. Click the 3 menu items on the left and look for any "X" error messages. Double click the error entry to see the details. If you find the error 1311 there, click the Copy Icon on the right side of the details window and paste the results back here in a reply to this message.

Also, go to Start/Run and type msinfo32 and press OK. Click Components/Problem Devices to check for possible hardware problems.

This error is typical of problems either with the installation media (CD Disk) or, more commonly, the CD drive itself. Take a look at the following MSKB articles for information and resolutions for the problem.
