Link won't open new window

I've recently started to experience a new problem. If I click a link on a
site that should open in a second window, the window opens very briefly,
aparently displaying what should be there, and then closes. I have tried
with IE popup blocker on and off, I've tried with the Google toolbar allowing
popups and not. The results the same. I've tried the process involving
"regsvr32 urlmon.dll" etc.

My installation is clean, as part of a reinstall. Is SP2 and is up to date
with security updates etc. I am running AVG Free and Ad-Aware Ad-Watch.

Anyone any ideas please?

Go to Tools | Internet Options | Advanced.
Uncheck "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts".

Also, if you have Yahoo Companion, Google toolbar, MSN toolbar, a firewall,
Earthlink (or another pop-up blocker) My IE2 (a shell for IE) etc.
Yahoo Companion is a very common cause.

You'll have to turn off the feature that's blocking new windows or, perhaps,
uninstall the program (especially uninstall Yahoo Companion).

With some programs of this type, using Ctrl+click or Shift+click will allow
a new window.

If you're sure that another program isn't causing this, these links may
help.

Try also to re-register the DLL files that are related to Internet Explorer:

....and check for worm/viruses.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I tried all that but the problem persists. If I right click and
select "Open in new window" it works.

Hi,
This sounds like the work of Ad-aware Pro- the "Block pop-ups" feature. It
sometimes allows the window to open momentarily, before being closed. If not
being done by Ad-aware, it's probably the work of another pop-up blocker
(Vincenzo's post) Examine all toolbars, add-ons and privacy/security
programs for this feature.

Hope this helps,
