Link to an object on a slide, or better alternative?

Patrick

This is what I am trying to do:

In 1 PowerPoint presentation I have people's photos on slides (many photos
on each of many slides). These photes are each set to link to a specific
slide within another ppt presentation (each of these slides includes details
about each person) and you can click links in this 2nd pres to go back to the
original pres.

Problem is, slides will be added to the 2nd presentation or even reordered.
The links that are set up in pres 1 point to the wrong slides when the 2nd
pres is modified.

I thought perhaps linking to objects on each slide might help, but from
reading other posts, it looks like you cannot do this.

Is there another way for the links in the 1st pres to point to the proper
slides in pres 2, when pres 2 is modified, without needing to update the
links in pres 1?

Thanks!

I would link to custom shows within the original presentation. and set "show
and return". You can either add an "END SHOW" button in the custom shows or
just click to the end and they will go back to the original slide.

Thanks for the reply. Please forgive my ignorance, but I am not sure if this
solves my issue (and I realize my initial description was not especially
clear).

Essentially, what needs to happen is: in pres 1, click a linked autoshape to
go to slide 1 in pres 2 (and then click another autoshape link to return to
pres 1); in pres 1, click a 2nd link to go to slide 2 in pres 2, and so on.
If pres 2 is modified and the current slide 2 becomes slide 3, then the
original link to slide 2 in pres 1 no longer points to the proper page -- it
needs to maintain the link to the page that was 2 and is now 3.

Can custom shows allow this to happen across multiple presentations?

Thanks!

Thanks Steve --

I like the idea of combining presentations and hiding slides. But, even if
the slides are part of one pres, wouldn't a link from slide 1 to slide 10
(for example) point to the wrong slide if a new slide is added prior to slide
10? The (old) slide 10 would now be slide 11, and the link to slide 10 would
point to the new slide 10.

This project (for better or worse) requires that the link to slide 10 point
to that slide regardless of where it may later move in the file, through
slides being added, deleted or reordered.

Thanks again for your reply!

Using Steve's method or custom shows (within one file) the link will still
work even if you insert / delete slides. The link to slide 10 for example is
actually "remembered" as a link to a slide ID which doesn't depend on where
the slide is.

No, it should work. The linking within a presentation is much more
robust than the linking across presentations. Inserting slides shouldn't
mess up the linking within a presentation.

That works! -- I am moving all of the slides into a single presentation.
Thank you so much!
