Let's Play STUMP THE TECHNICIANS !

Howard[BSCG]

I've posted this twice before (once each in 2 diff forums) but no one has had the courage to figure this one out or get back to me with some possible help.

....and I thought only the **really** smart people hung out here! :)

==> HERE IT IS <==
---------------------------
I have a two PCs where the program groups that I've created on my desktop, for icon shortcuts, won't remember the View -> Icon setting from one power-on session to the next. All of my other PCs are fine and don't have a problem remembering their settings from one power-on session to the next.

All PCs are Win-XP-Pro at SP2.

When I reopen the program group after reboot, the default display always reverts back to Details view, and Auto Arrange is enabled..

Here are some of the things I've tried:
[1] With the pgm group open and in Icon view, hold down the SHIFT key and click on the group's red X.
[2] While the pgm group is open & in Icon view mode, menu = Tools -> Folder Options -> View:
ü Remember Each Folder's View Settings (Clk APPLY)
Now clk on action button: Apply to All Folders
After reboot, the view reverted back to Details mode.
[3] Downloaded-Installed TweakUi: Explorer -> Customizations:
Folders To Remember I changed setting from 400 to 700,
Reboot. Default display still reverted back to Details view.

What is going on here and why is it only on a few PCs of the same OS and SP level?
How can I get the Icon view mode to stick from one power-on session to the next?

Thanks for any assistance.

Folder Views - Keep Settings

Go to - Start/Run/Regedit and Delete these two keys, reboot then re-set your folder options.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags

If you prefer not to deal with the registry, you can use the edit from here:

Restore Folder Views (Line 2)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Windows remembers 400 folders. When that number is reached things start to go wrong. You can up this to 1000 by a
dding this to the registry. All tested and working. Things will last a little longer.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell]
"BagMRU Size"=dword:000003e8

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam]
"BagMRU Size"=dword:000003e8

If you prefer not to deal with the registry, you can use the edit from here:

Increase Folder View Options Limit: (Line 2)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Save Settings on Exit (Line 54)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Note: Apply to all folders does not stick:
If you are using TweakUI/Uncheck Only allow Windows Classic Shell

THANK YOU VERY MUCH for taking the time to assist. I'll give it a try.

....interesting how the posting's subject creating a challenge managed to get the reply, when my prev posts that contained the real subject's text got no takers. Now I know how to get your attention. :)

Tx again
