KB933928 Problem

G

Guest

Can you tell me exactly how to uninstall the updates? I did a system restore
going back to 7/11, the day before the updates but it didn't help the
problem. I do not know how to uninstall the updates individually. Thanks.

Could you please explain what your saying in "novice speak"? I have no idea
what you mean by rolling an update to before....... Thanks,

Sorry : I should have said 'Roll back'. i.e. uninstall the most recent
updates upto and including KB933928. (i.e. = that is.. :) ) I uninstalled
KB935807, KB929916 and KB933928. KB935807 was listed as essential, but my
contacts list was useless, so wth.
KB933928 was released on July 11th, and my problems (and many others')
started since then.
Things are ok now. I have asked this wide VISTA to PLEASE keep quite for a
week. Hopefully the geniuses at Microsoft will release updates to updates by
then. They have got used to C++, where the have arrays of pointers to arrays
of pointers to.....

A system restore to July 11th may not have helped : KB933928 was released
11th July!
The way I uninstalled the updates was the royal way : Control panel->
Programs and Features. In the left (blue frame) you would see 'View installed
Updates'. Click on that : you will see the updates that are installed on the
right side. If you see KB933928, then you have not uninstalled this update. I
am not sure if it is wise to retain later updates while uninstalling earlier
ones. I would recommend that you start from the latest update (IF YOU SEE
KB933928), highlight it by clicking on it, and then choose the Uninstall icon
in the toolbar above the list of updates. It takes quite some time to
uninstall the updates.
All the best. WinMail is quite scary : I will not recommend it for my
organisation for at least six months.

I have the same problem and started a new discusision thread in MS
communities group.....you can find that thread by searching for the string
"unable to choose recipients" in Winmail Mail pulldown....

Bottomline for me was that even after uninstalling the three updates
suggested ( i.e. KB935807, KB929916, and KB933928) it still didnpt fix the
pb. I first uninstalled KB933928 -- tried it and it didn't fix it, so I then
uninstalled KB935807 and KB929916 (together) and still no soap,,,,

I wonder if the order of the uninstalls is an critical?

I'm on a new HP Laptop with Vista Home Premium edition, & w/Nortion 360 AV

Whata a saga.....hoping MS will resolve this somehow soon !

Thank you! I uninstalled all of the updates for the 12th (I didn't use my
computer on the 11th) and TA DA! I can once again choose my recipients. One
of the things I did is not allow "recommended" updates to automatically
install. Hopefully, there will be a fix for this issue but in the meantime,
no updates for me.

I thought I had Windows Mail working after removing KB933928 but it came back
again. So I using Outlook 2000 and had worked for incomming but had problems
send or replying to incomming mail. So I have given up on all Microsoft Email
in Vista until they can get a fix for this flakey program "Windows Mail". I
have downloaded and installed "Mozilla Thunderbird" and it works perfectly
in Vista. No problems receiving or sending Email. A program don't have to be
great, would just like for it to work. I have reinstalled KB933928 and
Thunderbird is still working great.

Dear Rod H 19 July

I had expected that the order of unistalling could be important, such as in
the case when an update works on changes made by earlier updates. I do not
know if it would help, but MAYBE you could reinstall all the updates and then
unistall top downwards to KB933928 ( I got that update byheart!!)

I wish I had the courage of the gentleman who chucked Microsoft Email out the
window ( hope he did not damage his Windows) and installed Thunderbird. Vista
quietly reinstalled all the updates I so painstakingly removed. I spend
another 45 minutes reuninstalling them ( these words are in the Microsoft
dictionary). I told windows to please talk to me before doing anything
suicidal. I find when I shut down, there is an option install updates before
shutting down, and this appears as default. I do not know when my wife (or
myself , for that matter) will click without noticing the option.

I hope there is an update to the update soon.

This problem seems to be going on forever!!!! I go in everyday and delete
KB933928 - this is done by going to the Control Panel and opening Windows
Updates. Look for History and then Uninstall Update - Oh for the good old
days of Outlook!!!!!! I absolutely hate Windows Mail and am so disappointed
in it! Surely Mircosoft can resolve this issue in a timely manner - like
TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

As of May 30th, Microsoft has stated that Windows Live Mail is the
replacement for Windows Mail. What part of that is hard to understand?
Why are you still using Windows Mail?

Gary, my goodness just what gives you the right to be so rude????? Has it occured to you that so many of us are still continuing to use Win Mail because we didn't know there was something else. As a matter of fact, I also have Windoes Live Hotmail and so far haven't found where it says it replaces Mail!!!!!!!
Now, young man, may I suggest you mind your manners and change your tone of
voice (typing)!!!!!!!

I didn't think I was rude.
The availability if Windows Live Mail has been proclaimed here in dozens
of posts per day, ever since May 30th, so I find it hard to understand that
anyone reading this forum could be unaware of that fact.
By the way, typing on Usenet with a lot of exclamation points (!!!!!!!!)
is considered immature.
Also, I'm well into my sixties.

Has any update been put up to the problems of KB933928?

I have stopped updates, and the system is running fine. Is upgrading to
LiveMail difficult? The machine is at home, and I am very scared of having to
spend hours over sleepless nights repairing things, knowing full well one can
rarely completely repair the damages that Windows does to itself.

Thanks,

Mohan

No, there's no new and improved KB933928.

For most people the upgrade to Windows Live Mail (WLM) is smooth
and painless. But I've heard from a few people who had trouble
installing it. So, there are no guarantees. The nice thing about
WLM is that you can always uninstall it, which will return WM
as your default email program.

Thanks again!

Sorry to appear dumb, but I checked on get.live .com, and I get the feeling
WLM is web-based? ie are mails on my hard disk, or on their servers (like
gmail etc?). Or am I looking at the wrong place?

WLM is not web-based. It is a standard POP/IMAP mail client
like WM, but with the added bonus of Hotmail access and recent
fixes.
