KB908531-like Symptons but without 908531

I'm experiencing the issues that have said to be associated with Update
908531, but I was experiencing them long before that specific update came out
and have not yet been able to find someone with an answer. Going crazy here.

Problem has something to do with Imaging device drivers. It first occured
with Scanner Drivers (tried 3 Different Brands before giving up on using
scanners all together) a year ago, and now am getting the same problem with
my Canon Elura 100 Camcorder (though interestingly enough, I did not have the
problem with a Sony Camcorder). When I install the drivers for any of these
scanners OR when I plug my new Canon into the firewire port (driver's are
built in to XP for this camera), then I get the following issues:

1) Windows Explore stops functioning properly. Upon opening, it takes about
5 minutes for the left hand tree to populate. Clicking on "My Computer"
causes the little flashlight to pop up on the right and side and spend 5+
minutes to locate files. The same thing happens in any program if you use
Open File or Save File As and then click on the drop down arrow to browse to
a certain file. This is NOT a memory or computer speed issue. The computer
operates at normal speed for all functions except those described here. It
is definitely a software/system related issue. Like I said if you do
searches you will find these symptons in articles related to the mentioned
security update released earlier this year, but I was experiencing these
symptons a year ago as soon as I tried to connect my scanner and again this
month now that I'm connecting my camcorder.

2) Internet Explorer Address Bar stops functioning properly. Pretty much
the same issue - if you type in an address directly into the address bar, it
takes 5+ minutes for Explorer to actually go to the site. This DOES NOT
happen if you click on a link or select something from favorites and has
NOTHING to do with internet problems or speed - it is definitely a
software/windows issue - something keeping Explorer from going to the address.

Because I was so curious about how I could have the exact same problem as
everyone was having with KB908531 before it was out, I removed it from my
system and tested - problems still there. (Don't worry, I'm gonna re-install
it now.)

PLEASE NOTE: I'm not a computer genius, but I'm not stupid either. The
above problems ONLY occur when I either install Scanner Drivers and/or Plug
in my Canon Camcorder (which would automatically activate it's driver within
XP). I can do a restore to the day before and the problems all go away with
everything else staying the same so basic logic tells you it is an issue with
the drivers for these conflicting with something, but what and how to fix it
remains a mystery!

Computer Specs: HP Pavilion, AMD Athlon XP 3200, 512 RAM, 160GB Hard Drive,
Additional 200GB Hard Drive, Memory Card Slots/USB in front, 1 Firewire port
in front, 6 Additional USB ports in rear, 1 additional Firewire port in rear,
user installed NVidia FX 5200 Graphics Card with 128mb on board memory,
Running Windows Home XP.

And Oh, yeah, I've already tried the "Stop WIA Service/Process" - that does
not fix the problem.

I'm going crazy here and just about ready to scrap my whole computer and do
a complete recovery, something I'd prefer not doing! :)

Thanks for any help!

Actually, I just tried connecting my scanner - issues were there. Went into
Device Manager and Uninstalled Driver. Issue went away. Then plugged in my
Camcorder via Firewire, Issue was there. Went into Device Manager and
Uninstalled Driver - issue went away. Obviously, my computer has some weird
conflict/issue with Imaging Drivers.

If you can help me fix this and you live in Los Angeles or every come this
way, I'll buy you dinner! Promise! :)

Thanks!

This may be a conflict between the Imaging driver and the
Graphics Card drivers. Check with NVidia for information.
Also submit a tech support ticket with them, if possible, as
they may be aware of this problem.
