computer doesn't recognize digital camcorder

Vicky

I'm having problems connecting my canon mv400i digital
camcorder to the firewire port of my computer. The
operating system is windows XP. I know that the
camcorder works fine as i can connect it to another
computer and the firewire port on my computer seems to be
ok as i can connect it to another computer and share
files via firewire. But, nothing happens when i plug in
the camcorder (i.e. there is no 'new hardward detected'
message and it doesn't appear anywhere on the computer).
There are no drivers with this camcorder as windows is
supposed to recognize it as soon as you plug it in. Any
suggestions? Thanks!

Hello

Well are you sure that your firewire on your pc is working
ok. Since you an connect your camcorder to another pc and
it works, maybe it's your firewire port on your pc that is
defective or not working. Do you know for sure if your
port is working, look into that first
