java virtual machine

I have not been able to see sites where the java virtual
machine is required like "Formula One Live timing site" I
have tried many ways to get information or a download but
seem to run in circles. I either do not have virtual
machine installed or if I try to install it it says that
I need XP Pack1 (which I cannot dowload because it takes
me all day to download the 30 mg needed.
For some reason Microsoft did not include VM in this XP
Prof. and I don't know what else to do. Microsoft site
takes me around in cirles and solve no problems.!!!
Any ideas???
