Java Virtual Machine

Hi, im running XPpro and have an Athlon2000+. My computer
is less than 6months old and so i believe it doesn't have
Microsoft VM. Whenever i try to view any web pages that
contain a Java applet it says i need to download Java
Virtual Machine. When i click on the link it says i need
to run windows update and obtain the latest version of
it, which i cant seem to find. What do i need to enable
these applets to run? I have also downloaded Java Web
Start which means i can now use the viual tracking
feature on Norton Internet Security.
