isapnp.sys missing corrupt

System hung up this morning on startup and eventually the error message
"windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
System32\drivers\isapnp.sys.

I read the Microsoft support article on this error message and followed the
instructions for replacing the file using the recovery console. Everything
went well and the file was replaced. However, upon restarting the message
wll come up again. I have gone through the procedure twice with the same
results.

Anyone know what I can do to resolve this?

if you added any new hardware or device in the system uninstall and follow
the step again.

Nothing new added to system. System has stayed in the present configuration
for over one year.
