internet explorer

Any ideas on any spyware or malware which removes
internet explorer from the taskbar, desktop, start menu
and programs directory. If I click on a saved link or
shortcut to a web page, I'm back using IE, I just lost
all my direct access to it.

BTW, any ideas how to get it back without re-loading
windows.

Thanks in advance

Hi John,
Not sure what may have caused this one, but here's a suggestion:
Right click on your desktop, click Properties, Desktop, Customize Desktop,
and recheck the IE button. Once it's there, you can copy the shortcut to
taskbar, pin to stat menu etc.

No problem.

Open your Desktop.
Right click.
Select * New * Shortcut
For name, enter "Internet Explorer"
For program, enter "C:\Program Files\Internet
Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE"

Later, you can update the various properties.

Has somebody used "Set program access and defaults" to disallow access to
IE?

Haven't met that one yet. Would like to see what it is.

Get HijackThis.exe from
http://tomcoyote.org/hjt/hjt199//HijackThis.exe

Save it to C:\hjt (new folder) then Open it and select
Open the Misc Tools Section. Click the two boxes next to
Generate StartupList Log and then press Generate
StartupList LOG. This will bring up a notepad file. Save
it somewhere you can find it again and send me the
HijackThis log as an attachment.
You can try just copying it and pasting it into a reply
but I
might not see it. I should be able to identify the
problem and tell you how to get rid of it for good.

Also go to http://www.silentrunners.org/Silent%
20Runners.vbs which should download the vbs program Silent
Runners.vbs. Put it on your desktop. You may need to
turn off Norton script blocking if you have that and
AntiSpy may also object but the program is safe and will
scan your system for hidden registry startup entries and
create a txt file that gives its results. Please send it
to me.
