internet explorer unusable - vc++ runtime error

MS Anti spyware seems to have completely clobbered my
internet explorer. Even an ie re-install doesn't fix it.
Any attempt to run it causes the following error (below).
Any suggestions? (OS=w2k, up-to-date)

This suggests that some malware has attached an unwanted extension or
Browser Helper Object to MSIE, and a bug in that extension or BHO has caused
MSIE itself to crash.

Use the System Explorers feature of Microsoft AntiSpyware to inspect the IE
BHOs and IE Toolbars. Disable any that look suspicious.

By the way, this is a message from the Visual C++ run-time library.
Microsoft AntiSpyware does not use Visual C++, so MSAS is unlikely to be
directly responsible for this problem.
